Speedy Gonzolas... no, Speedy GRANZolas!

So there I am Thursday afternoon driving through the thick Vancouver Olympic Traffic. I’m on my way to get set up and ready to perform for the Olympic Torch relay Ceremony at UBC! I’m very excited as tens of thousands of people are expected to attend!

Anyways, I’m not the world’s fastest driver but I’m definitely not the worlds slowest. I was cruising down highway 99 at about 115kms (speed limit posted is 90)... im cruising along down the highway listening to Howard stern on satellite radio when zooooooooooom! This 1992 Ford Taurus comes flying past me! Who is this? Speedy Gonzolas? Nope, it’s someone’s grandmother. Speedy GRANzolas!  I couldn’t believe my eyes. I mean I really couldn’t believe what I thought I just saw... So me being me I decided that I needed to catch up to granny panties to see what was happening... Perhaps my mind was playing a trick on me.

I sped up. I couldn’t catch her. I sped up even more. I still couldn’t catch her. I hit the peddle to the medal. 140kms hour and I was able to finally approach this mystery speedster thanks to the traffic congestion a head. Now was my chance. I switched lanes pulled up beside the old rusty Ford Taurus and to my amazement not only was it an old Grandmother driving... she had two old lady passengers... when I say old im talking early to mid 70’s... Now my father is approaching 70 and I don’t see him as being old. But what I can tell you about my father who is approaching 70 is that he does not drive like that!

I’m really happy I was able to catch up to the speedy GRANzolas because what I witnessed couldn’t have been any funnier. There she was 100percent focused on the road ahead (As she should be).  Her hands were at “ten and two” and I could tell she really was a good driver... what made me laugh the hardest though were her passangers...

One riding shut gun talking on her cell phone... the other in the back seat doing some Knitting! Ha-ha it was the funniest thing ive ever seen and I felt like I should share that story with you...

But please please please do me the favour... if you ever see a speedy GRANzolas driving. Don’t speed up to see them. Obey the traffic signs and get there safe!

So in closing. Does your Granny drive fast, or is she bad ass and have a cell phone, or is she at home right now knitting you a slipper? All of my grandparents have passed onto a better place but I would like to state that my mother is a grandma... And she’s the best; she knitted me slippers that look like converse sneakers!!! Thanks mommy!! xox
